As a newborn photographer, one of my favorite parts of my job is photographing you and your child in one of the most fleeting chapters of being a parent.  However, once the photoshoot is over, it’s important to consider how you’ll display your newborn photos so that you can cherish them for years to come. In this blog post, I’ll discuss everything you need to know about printing and displaying your newborn photos, including the benefits of printing your photos, popular printing options, and tips for creating beautiful displays.

Why Print Your Newborn Photos?

In today’s digital age, it can be tempting to simply store your newborn photos on your computer or phone. However, there are several benefits to printing your photos that you won’t get from digital files alone.

First, printed photos allow you to actually hold and touch the memories you’ve captured. There’s something special about being able to physically flip through an album or hang a photo on your wall that just can’t be replicated by scrolling through a screen. Ever since my twins have been little, they have loved looking through old albums. They look through albums of my husband and I before they were born. They look at albums from when they were a baby. They look at albums from vacations we have had together. They remember vacations we have had together through the photos that we have taken. I love looking at them as they lay on the floor together, remember moments, and love that they get to see my husband outside of just the mom and dad role that we play in their lives. Interacting with the photos, and seeing some of the same family photos has helped them remember our old house, and the time we had their birthday on the Pirate Ship.

Additionally, printed photos are more likely to last a lifetime than digital files. While digital files can be lost or corrupted over time, a printed photo can be preserved and passed down through generations. I see this in my own family. On my desk is a photo of my grandmother and grandfather at the beach when they were in their 20s. I love this photo. I love that I see them as they see themselves. It is right there, easily available for me to view it, and remember them.

Popular Printing Options for Newborn Photos

When it comes to printing your newborn photos, there are several options to choose from. Here are some of the most popular printing options:

  1. Prints: Prints are a classic option for displaying your newborn photos. You can choose to print your photos in a variety of sizes, from wallet-sized prints to large wall prints. Printing paper can be glossy or fine art, and a variety in between.
  2. Photo albums: Photo albums are a great way to display a collection of photos. You can choose to create a traditional album with physical prints, or create a digital album that can be viewed on your computer or tablet.
  3. Canvas prints: Canvas prints are a beautiful way to display your newborn photos on your walls. They’re printed on high-quality canvas material, and can be stretched over a wooden frame for a 3D effect. You can even go for a more museum look, and frame your canvas, enhancing both the photo, and enlarging the space it takes on your wall.
  4. Photo books: Photo books are similar to photo albums, but offer a more modern and sleek design. You can choose from a variety of layouts and designs, and the finished product looks like a professionally printed book.
  5. Acrylic prints: Acrylic prints are a unique and modern way to display your newborn photos. They’re printed on a high-quality acrylic material, which gives the photos a vibrant and glossy finish.
  6. Metal Prints: Metal prints are similar to acrylic and they offer excellent details, and a modern sleek design with a glossy finish.
  7. Photo Blocks: Photo blocks are a great way to substitute out prints through the years. You can keep your collage, but interchange the photos in them.
  8. Folio Box: If you love the idea of having matted newborn prints where you are able to sub out different display pictures, a  folio box may be a wonderful option.

Tips for Creating Beautiful Displays of Your Newborn Photos

Now that you know some of the popular printing options for your newborn photos, it’s time to start thinking about how to create beautiful displays. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  1. Choose the right size: When it comes to printing your photos, size matters. Consider where you’ll be displaying the photo, and choose a size that will fit well in that space. People almost always go to small for a space.
  2. Mix and match: Don’t be afraid to mix and match different printing options. For example, you could create a photo album for some of your favorite shots, and then choose a few larger prints to display on your walls.
  3. Get creative with frames: When it comes to framing your prints, there are endless possibilities. Consider choosing frames that match your decor, or opt for unique frames that add a pop of color or texture to your display. If you like a museum look, you may like large gilded frames. If you want to be more eclectic, choose a variety of textures and colors. If you like modern, don’t be afraid to print your photo with lots of negative space around it, and frame the entire area.
  4. Create a gallery wall: A gallery wall is a great way to display a collection of photos in one place. You can mix and match different sizes and styles of frames, and even incorporate other decor elements like mirrors or wall hangings.
  5. Consider a theme: If you’re struggling to decide how to display your photos, consider choosing a theme. For example, you could create a display of black and white prints, or choose photos that all feature your baby’s favorite toy.

Final Thoughts

The most important point in printing photos, is that you get them off of your computer, and display them in your home. Display them as a focal point above the crib, or to decorate a small cubby area by a chair. But print them. We take 1000s of photos with our phones a year. I know we enjoy seeing the memories pop up on social media. But to have your photos printed in your home, brings some much warmth to your home, memories to your family, and value to your photos. If you are a little overwhelmed with all the possible ways you can print and display your photos, talk to your photographer. Raising Wild Ones Photography makes it easy to print your photos straight from your online gallery. Your photographer may also have options that are available only to professionals. If you want quality wall art, such as canvases, fine art with frames, and metal prints, your photographer should be able to get you the best prints from professional labs.
